Visiting: Ephesus, House of Virgin Mary, Temple of Artemis, Isabey Mosque

Duration: 4 hours

As you exit Çeşme Harbour, you will find your professional local guide waiting for you with a name placard, ready to take you an an insightful tour of Selcuk's most impressive historic sights.

Ephesus
The Ancient City of Ephesus dates back around 3,000 years and, despite its age, has some of the world's best preserved ruins. Under Roman rule it was one of the largest cities of its day and its beautiful architecture and ornate carvings can be witnessed in the Temple of Hadrian, the Great Theater and the elegant Celsius Library, once home to around 12,000 scrolls.

House of the Virgin Mary
Located on the top of a hillside not far from Ephesus lies the House of the Virgin Mary where the mother of Christ is believed to have been brought by John the Baptist to live out her final years. Pilgrimages are made here throughout the year by people of all walks of life and it boasts impressive panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Temple of Artemis
Listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Temple of Artemis dates back to the 6th century BC and today the ruins of its ornate marble columns are scattered throughout the surrounding swamp land. While some of its artifacts are now housed in London's British Museum, seeing the ruins at their original location offers an unparalleled sense of its former grandeur.

Isabey Mosque
One of the most exquisite examples of Seljukian-style mosque, the Isabey Mosque was built in 1374 by one of the most famous builders of his time, Ali – the son of Mushimish al-Damishki. Take note of the beautiful detail of its marble carvings and the mosaics that adorn its walls, creating a sense of serenity and calm.

NOTE!
While the Terrace Houses section is located within the Ancient City of Ephesus, it has an extra entrance fee of 15 USD per person. It is, however, highly recommended by those who visit, offering a unique insight into the lives of the wealthy ancient people who once lived there. Of particular note is its oldest building, "The houses of the rich Romans", which dates back to the 1st century BC and still exhibits beautiful tile work and mosaics on its walls. Please take note that in this section there are over 100 stairs so we do not recommend it for people with physical disabilities.
