Visiting: Temple of Artemis, Ephesus, House of Virgin Mary, Basilica of St. John

Duration: 10 hours

Spend the day visiting some of the Christian faith's most sacred sights. As you depart Bodrum Harbour, a professional local guide holding your name placard will be waiting for you and will transport you to Selcuk to visit the following sights.

Ephesus Temple of Artemis
Start with a visit to the ruins of the Temple of Artemis, whose marble columns are scattered across an overgrown swampland. Listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and dating back to 6th century BC, it is one of the oldest relics in the area and an impressive sight. The Temple of Artemis used to be part of the large Roman city of Ephesus and the ruins are among the best preserved in the world. Wander through the Temple of Hadrian, the Temple of Domitian and the large theater where St Paul is believed to have preached, as well as the beautifully reconstructed Celsius Library whose facade is elaborately adorned in marble carvings.

House of the Virgin Mary
This small stone cottage in the Ephesus region is where the Mother Mary is believed to have spent her final years after John the Baptist brought her here.
It now stands as an important pilgrimage site for people of many faiths who come to pray for good fortune and boasts fantastic panoramic views across the landscape below.

Basilica of St. John
In the center of Selcuk lies the Basilica of St John, with the tomb on its foundations believed to be that of St John himself. While little is known of its construction, the church was completed in 565 AD and served as one of the holiest churches of its time.

NOTE!
Don't miss an opportunity to visit the Terrace Houses section within the Ancient City of Ephesus. It has an extra entrance fee of 15 USD per person but is a highlight of many people's visit. "The houses of the rich Romans", the oldest building, dates back to the 1st century BC and beautifully illustrates the lifestyle of the period. Marvel at the
mosaics and frescoes, as well as the famed clay pipe water and heating systems. With over 100 stairs to climb, we do not recommend this optional extra for people with disabilities. The Terrace Houses section takes a minimum of 30 minutes to visit.
